"I cannot live without champagne
In victory I deserve it,
and in defeat I need it"

Sir Winston Churchill

pol roger 144 Avenue de Champagne, Epernay. Pol Rogers adresse - ”Verdens mest smagfulde adresse”, sagde Churchill.

Churchill faldt starks. For champagnen.

Winston Churchill, a perfectionist an all things prized Pol Roger above all other Champagnes.

Pol Roger's tribute to Sir Winston Churchill

pol roger 2As a young aestlete, Winston Churchill developed a fondness for Pol Roger Champagnes to the exclusion of all others. He regulary ordered Pol Roger for deliery to his homes and 10 Downing Street, where he entertained exclusively with Pol Roger. In 1952, after trying the first of the 1947 Pol Roger Brut, Churchill asked that a stockpile of this vintage be maintained for him for the rest of his life. Naturally, Pol Roger complied.

Winston Churchill met Jacques Pol-Roger and his wife Odette at a luncheon party in 1944. he and Odette, who was serving as a French Resistance courier, developed a lasting friendship. Churchill christened Pol Roger, headquarters, at 44 avenue de Champagne en Epernay "the world's most drinkable adress". he also named his favorite racing filly "Pol Roger".

In tribute, for many years following his death in 1965, all Pol Roger Champagnes imported by England bore blasck bordered labels. The in 1984, the Cuvée Sir Winsotn Churchill was introduced. Created to perpetuate the memory of the great Statesman, his great Champagne was launched, with the blessing of his family at Blenheim Palace, Churchill's birthplace.

Blended to Churchill's taste, Cuvée Sir Winsotn Churchill has met with international success. The wine Advocate described the 1979 Winston Churchill as "impeccably made, dry, toasty, medium-bodied, loaded with fruit and tiny symmetrical bubbles". The 1982 received similar praise from Master of Wine Clive Coates in the Vine: "Very fine persistent mousse. Brilliant nose. Great elegance. This has complexity, depth and flair! Equally splendid on the palate. Fullish, extremely elegang fruit, imperccable balance. A marvellous wine of real depth and character".
